University of Geneva, DQMP – ARPES group

The ARPES group at the Department of Quantum Matter Physics of the University of Geneva invites applications for a Phd position on “Electronic structure studies of van der Waals heterostructures using micro-focus ARPES”

Over the last few years, an increasing number of atomically thin van der Waals crystals has been obtained by mechanical exfoliation. This opened the way to design artificial quantum materials with tailored electronic properties by stacking different ultrathin crystals. In this project, you will use a unique micro-focus angle-resolved photoemission (micro-ARPES) setup to investigate the band structure of such van der Waals heterostructures. The main goal of the project is to induce phase transitions in 2D materials via electrostatic gating and to monitor the electronic structure across these phase transitions.

To apply please upload your CV including contact details of two scientists that can provide references, your university grades and a brief letter of motivation at academicjobsonline.org.

The position is available from summer 2020. Applications are considered until the position is filled.
