·       Duke University School of Medicine is seeking a qualified candidate to join the medical educational administration team as an Assistant Professor of the Practice.  The Assistant Professor would work with the Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs to lead the continuous quality improvement of the medical education program, including accreditation, course improvements, faculty development, and curricular mapping to ensure our continued growth as an outstanding innovator in medical education.  The Assistant Professor will teach biomedical sciences in the new Foundations of Patient Care course through development of creative teaching methodologies. 


The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching biomedical sciences and medical education program management.  Our medical school is committed to the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion and seek faculty who embrace and live these values.


  • Perform Project Management of our continuous quality improvement process mandated by the LCME and newly rigorous review process
    • Manage schedule of recurring review of all Standards and associated Elements
    • Elicit data and narratives from stakeholders to continuously update the Data Collection Instrument for LCME Standard review
    • Write narrative responses in the DCI continuously
    • Communicate directly (oral and written) with stakeholders including SOM leaders, faculty, staff and students
    • Develop and implement processes, with outcomes tracking, for identified areas of risk and deficiency
    • Prepare presentations to CAG and Curriculum Committee for continuous Standard reviews 
    • Maintain roster of review schedule and level of prioritization
    • Assist Assessment Team in preparing and conducting Annual Course Improvement Plans for all required courses, as part of LCME process
  • Coordinate LCME communications and review
    • Assist in LCME written communications as required for accreditation, prior to visit
    • Lead on writing DCI and finalizing report with ADCA for site visit and self-study
    • Lead on supporting the self-study process and mock visits
    • Lead on supporting students in completing the required Independent Student Analysis for LCME
  • Organize Course Director School and on-going faculty and staff development activities for LCME and best practices
  • Remain abreast of LCME accreditation review patterns, risks, and best practices
    • Attendance at regular LCME virtual workshops and meetings
    • Share updates with Duke’s LCME Action Team to inform our practices
  • Perform mapping functions within LMS
  • Accurately map and track updated Program Objectives to all events and courses in LMS
    • Accurately map instructional strategies, evaluation strategies, EPAs, and other keywords within our repository
    • Perform annual Curriculum Inventory report for the AAMC, which is used for LCME as well
    • Serve as expert resource for team members in LMS maintenance to ensure consistently and quality of data reports generated


  • Contribute to teaching and assessment in the MD program as a histology lab instructor an contribute to other lab teaching or small group activities in other disciplines (e.g. anatomy, neurosciences, journal seminars, simulations, and/or pathology) where possible
    • Conduct review sessions and/or tutoring in these areas as needed
    • Identify and incorporate new learning technologies, resources, and/or strategies into the curriculum as appropriate
    • Participate in the School of Medicine Curriculum Renewal project
  • Provide guidance and assistance to the Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs and the Assistant Dean for Basic Sciences Education to advance innovations in biomedical science education
  • Serve on the Medical School Admissions Committee by screening medical school applications for admissions and participating in multiple mini-interview sessions (MMIs)
  • Perform other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:  PhD, MD, or equivalent advanced degree with experience.
