Tenure Track Assistant Professor
(Theoretical / Computational Condensed Matter Physics)
Department of Physics and Astronomy
University of Delaware
Newark, DE

The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Delaware seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in theoretical/computational condensed matter physics focused on electronic structure. All areas of modern ab initio and many-body methods applied to realistic materials or molecular systems will be given thorough consideration including: density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT; many-body perturbation theory and coupled-cluster methods; GW-Bethe-Salpeter equation; dynamical mean-field theory; quantum Monte Carlo; tensor networks, matrix product states and density matrix renormalization group; and methods for nonequilibrium electronic structure. Candidates with experience in developing new algorithms that can efficiently utilize local and remote high performance computing resources are especially invited to apply.  We seek creative and innovative individuals who will engage in high-quality teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, who are eager to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment and aim to become leaders in their fields.  The new faculty member will also play a critical role in the interdisciplinary Quantum Science and Engineering graduate program, as well as in collaborations with spintronics, nanomagnetism and low-dimensional electronic materials experimentalists in Physics and Astronomy, UD Chemistry and several engineering departments interacting through UD MRSEC https://mrsec.udel.edu/). The successful candidate will benefit from a competitive start-up package. In addition to pursuing an excellent research program, they will be expected to provide effective instruction and advising to a diverse population of graduate and undergraduate students and to demonstrate commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the educational, research, and academic service activities. International candidates are welcome to apply. UD International Student & Scholar Services will aid international scholars.
