We are seeking candidates interested in experimental dark matter searches and related quantum sensor development. Our postdoctoral fellows are for three years with the possibility of a 2-year renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs, and are provided with salaries comparable to those at other prestigious institutions. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field by the time the appointment begins. Relevant skills/experience include cryogenics (particularly involving dilution refrigerators), low noise electronics, superconducting devices, and/or low-background physics. Our program focuses on the commissioning of a new cryogenic underground experimental lab at the Kamioka mine, as well as the subsequent operation and analysis of the dark matter direct search experiments housed there. The experiments will utilize a series of state-of-the-art, low threshold cryogenic particle detectors such as Transition Edge Sensors (TES) and Microwave Kinetic Inductance Devices (MKIDs) housed in a 15 mK, ultra-low background experimental space to search for low mass particle dark matter. The main responsibilities for the new position will revolve around the commissioning and analysis of the experiment, as well as R&D on new cryogenic sensors. We expect to have dark matter science results obtained and published during the initial 3-year period. The position will be based at KEK with frequent travel to Kamioka and occasional travel to Berkeley, CA, where detectors and targets are being developed. The incumbent will work with QUP PI M. Garcia-Sciveres and other scientists at QUP, KEK and Berkeley.
