Position Description
The Cornell Center for Astrophysics and Planetary Science at Cornell University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position. The applicant is expected to work primarily with Prof. Dongwoo Chung in the field of observational extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology. The applicant will have the opportunity to pursue research projects in support of a range of cm- to mm-wave surveys at the forefront of line-intensity mapping, through the COMAP, TIME, and CCAT collaborations. The applicant will have some latitude for self-directed work, while spending a significant fraction of their time working on testing and validating analysis strategies for new data from the cutting-edge instruments operated by these collaborations. Applicants with prior experience with wide-field cm- to mm-wave surveys (line-intensity mapping or otherwise)—including in data analysis, simulations, and/or forecasting—are especially encouraged to apply. The position requires a PhD in astronomy, physics, or a closely related field. The position is for one year from the date of hire, with possibility of renewal for two further years contingent on funding and performance. The nominal start date will be 2025/08/01 but is negotiable. Pay Ranges:
The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:
- Prior relevant work or industry experience.
- Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
- Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
