Position Description
Postdoctoral Associate
Under the general supervision of Dr. Nikiforov, the Postdoctoral Associate will conduct independent and collaborative research in the areas of keratinocyte differentiation, melanoma biology, and multiple myeloma biology, and mechanisms of drug resistance. Research activities will utilize a combination of in vitro approaches, including cultured cell models, and in vivo experimental systems using animal models. The successful candidate is expected to contribute intellectually to ongoing projects, develop new experimental strategies, and participate in the dissemination of research findings through presentations and publications.
Responsibilities include:
- Development of new experimental approaches and implementation, optimization, and modification of existing laboratory procedures and protocols to address research objectives.
- Design, execution, and analysis of experiments related to cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying keratinocyte differentiation, melanoma progression, and multiple myeloma drug resistance.
- Preparation and analysis of research data for oral presentations, grant applications, and publication in peer-reviewed professional journals.
- Application and implementation of bioinformatics and computational approaches for the analysis and interpretation of experimental data.
- Participation in collaborative research activities within the laboratory and with other investigators.
- Conformance to standards of responsible conduct in research and compliance with good scholarly and research practices.
- Maintenance of accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks and/or other comparable records documenting research activities, which remain the property of Duke University upon termination of the appointment.
- Adherence to University and institutional standards regarding the safe and ethical use of isotopes, chemicals, infectious agents, animals, human subjects, and other regulated materials.
- Open, regular, and timely communication with the mentor regarding all aspects of the Postdoctoral Appointee’s research activities, progress, and professional development.
