Duke’s Nicholas School of Environment in Durham, North Carolina, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate with experience in quantitative modeling of the atmosphere and/or climate system or in the economic valuation of the climate or clean air impacts of different scenarios from such models. The position will be supervised by Dr. Drew Shindell (https://nicholas.duke.edu/people/faculty/shindell). The researcher will advance efforts to value a broad spectrum of effects on human health, agricultural productivity, labor productivity, and GDP that are driven by either climate change or air quality changes. Work will include use of output from global climate models (CMIP-class models) as well as Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs) such as GCAM or PAGE. The candidate must have a PhD degree in a related field, be fluent in computer programming, preferably python, and will ideally have experience in working with output from global models and/or IAMs. The candidate should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively and have a good command of English. Time Frame Initial appointment will be for 1 year, with possibility to extend to 2 or 3 years. Position is available starting August 1st, with priority consideration for applications submitted by June 1st. Selected candidate will need to meet all hiring requirements, including a background check, prior to start date.
