Position Description
The Kumah Laboratory in the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences at Duke University is searching for a Postdoctoral Associate. This postdoctoral position is to support work focused on the synthesis and characterization of novel thin-film quantum materials to investigate the role interfaces play in emergent physical phenomena including magnetism, superconductivity and topologically protected electronic states. The position will utilize state-of-the-art molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) synthesis tools, synchrotron and lab-based X-ray scattering and spectroscopy tools to study topological, magnetic, superconducting, 2D, and other novel quantum materials. Lab Description: Successful candidates will be joining the Kumah Lab at Duke led by Prof. Divine Kumah. The lab is equipped with synthesis tools equipped with angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) for the in-situ characterization of novel materials. The candidate will also have access to state-of-the-art experimental facilities at the Shared Materials Instrumentation Facility. (https://www.smif.duke.edu/). Requirements: Qualifications: · PhD in science or engineering discipline (preferably in condensed matter physics, material science and electrical engineering, or equivalent) · Expertise in thin-film synthesis utilizing ultra-high vacuum equipment · Expertise with electronic transport and magnetic measurements · Experience with the following techniques are strongly desirable: MBE, ARPES, XPS, AFM and/or STM. · Evidence of high-quality experimental research demonstrated through publications and presentations, and strong oral and written communications skillsApplication Materials Required:
