Position Description

The William H. Miller III Department of Physics and Astronomy at Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a postdoctoral associate position in Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics.

The Overstreet group at Johns Hopkins University has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher who is interested in testing fundamental physics in AMO experiments. The goal of the project is to implement Yb atom interferometry in a laboratory-scale atomic fountain. The experiment will search for ultralight dark matter in the mass range 10^-22 eV to 10^-13 eV by performing differential spectroscopy and accelerometry between internal states of Yb. This multi-channel detection technique is expected to access new parameter space for several dark matter couplings, improving on existing searches by factors of up to 100 over a broad mass range.

The applicant will be expected to work closely with graduate and undergraduate students.

Applicants should have a PhD in physics prior to the start date and significant research experience with atomic and optical systems.

Applications should consist of a CV, list of publications, brief statement of research, and two letters of recommendation. Inquiries may be sent to Professor Chris Overstreet at c.overstreet@jhu.edu. Review of applications will continue until this position is filled.
