Position Description

Visiting Assistant Professor in Human Geography 
 
The Macalester College Department of Geography invites applications for a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin fall of 2025. The successful candidate will teach one of the department’s introductory courses (e.g., GEOG 111 - Geography, Environment, and Society: Global Issues and Local Patterns) each semester as well as an additional course in the candidate’s area of expertise that complements the department's existing strengths. A strong commitment to liberal arts education, experiential learning, and undergraduate research activities is essential. Salary and benefits are competitive. ABD candidates will be considered, although preference is for individuals who have their degree in hand prior to August 2025. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. In addition, candidates relying on an OPT Visa with a STEM extension are not eligible for hire.

Compensation and Benefits The starting range for most .75FTE visiting positions at Macalester College will be $41,000-$44,000, depending upon teaching experience and highest degree attained. At Macalester, we offer a generous package of employee benefits. Here are some highlights:
