Position Description

The Macalester College Neuroscience Program invites applications for a two-year full-time, non-tenure-track visiting assistant professor position to begin Fall 2025. The successful candidate will be able to teach Neuroanatomy (with lab) and advanced Neuroscience electives in areas that intersect with psychology. Candidates are not expected to conduct research but opportunities may be available. A strong commitment to liberal arts education, experiential learning, and undergraduate research activities is essential. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. In addition, candidates relying on an OPT Visa with a STEM extension are not eligible for hire. 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has a PhD in neuroscience or psychology, but ABD candidates will be considered. This position is renewable for the 2026-27 academic year, pending review of teaching.

About the Neuroscience Program: 

The Neuroscience Program is an interdepartmental program that brings together neuroscientists from the Biology and Psychology Departments to offer a multidisciplinary major grounded in biology, chemistry, and psychology with advanced electives in molecular and cellular neuroscience, systems neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience and more. 

Students completing the neuroscience major go on to graduate school, medical school, and diverse pathways in research, public health and education. 

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting range for most 1.0FTE visiting positions at Macalester College will be $60,000-$65,000, depending upon teaching experience and highest degree attained. At Macalester, we offer a generous package of employee benefits. Here are some highlights:
