Position Description

The High Energy Physics group in the Department of Physics at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral fellow position in theoretical particle physics starting fall 2025. The initial appointment will be for one year and is renewable annually for up to three years, contingent upon performance and availability of funds. The successful candidate will carry out theoretical research in high energy physics that leads to peer-reviewed publications in reputable scientific journals and will have an important role to play in maintaining the research excellence of the High Energy group at OSU. This includes helping with the mentorship of graduate students and seminar organization. They should also demonstrate the ability to work effectively with faculty and students within the theory group

The research interests of the high energy theorists at OSU (K. Babu, V. Brdar, and D. Gonçalves) involve collider physics, dark matter, neutrino phenomenology and other Beyond the Standard Model physics. There is also opportunity to interact with the high energy experimental group at OSU, who are involved in the ATLAS experiment at CERN.

The minimum qualifications are an earned PhD in theoretical High Energy Physics with a research publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Those who anticipate receiving their PhD degree by or before August 2025 are encouraged to apply. Oklahoma State University is an R1 comprehensive land-grant institution with an enrollment of more than 25,000 students. The university offers 87 undergraduate majors, 84 Master’s programs and 48 programs at the doctoral levels at campuses in Stillwater and Tulsa. The Department of Physics is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences, the largest college at the university with over 6500 students and 24 units. Stillwater is a micropolitan community of approximately 49,000 people with high-quality amenities, an excellent education system, a regional airport with daily service to Dallas-Ft. Worth, a lively arts scene including the McKnight Center of Performing Arts, and a comparably low cost of living. Oklahoma City and Tulsa are within a 1-hour drive. In addition to excellent healthcare, public education, and recreational services, the community affords a rich variety of cultural activities typical of a major university environment, including museums, music, art, and theater. Providing a combination of larger city amenities with an airport and cultural life, while maintaining the charm of a smaller community with affordable housing and excellent schools, Stillwater is ranked one of America’s safest cities. See http://VisitStillwater.org for more information.

Candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, research statement, list of publications, and arrange three letters of recommendation through AcademicJobsOnline.org. Review of applications will begin January 5, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. The position is contingent upon available funding.
