Position Description:

The Experimental Neutrino group at Oregon State University invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position on the ProtoDUNE, DUNE and/or MINERvA neutrino experiments. The successful candidate will participate in the development of novel computing infrastructure for the current ProtoDUNE runs at CERN and the future DUNE neutrino experiment in the US with emphasis on the development of open data systems.

Data from ProtoDUNE and/or the MINERvA neutrino cross-section experiment at Fermilab are available now for analysis.

Both protoDUNE and DUNE are large liquid Argon Time Projection chambers which produce detailed images of hadron and neutrino interactions ranging in size from 170 MB (protoDUNE) to 400 TB (DUNE supernova). Computational challenges range from algorithms for processing of very small signals from low energy neutrino interactions, through simulation of the unique environment in large liquid detectors, to large-scale distributed computing across over 30 collaborating sites worldwide and the development of robust data analysis techniques.

Oregon State University is located in Corvallis, OR. Candidates have the option of being located in Corvallis or at Fermilab in Batavia IL. Corvallis is one hour from the Oregon Coast and two hours from the Cascade Mountains.

As this position concentrates on high energy physics computing, please highlight any experience you have with signal processing, large-scale grid computing, databases, system management, computing frameworks, or other computing projects. Experience designing open-access data and outreach materials is also a plus. Not all of the skills listed are required for this position.

Previous experience in neutrino physics is not required. This position is an opportunity for the successful candidate to bring new ideas to our projects. The PI has worked in molecular imaging, accelerator controls, e+e- physics, neutrino and muon scattering and hadron collider physics and values broad experience.

Basic Qualifications:
• PhD in experimental particle physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics or a related field
• Demonstrated experience in writing C++ or Python to study and interpret data
• Clear and concise written and interpersonal communication skills

Other Information:
 • Occasional domestic and international travel
• You must complete your degree before starting the position. This position is restricted by university requirements to 3 years. See https://gradschool.oregonstate.edu/postdocs for information about Postdoctoral Scholar positions.
