Postdoctoral Associate – Biological Fluid Mechanics Lab 
Biological and Environmental Engineering

Position Summary 
Bio-inspired fluid lab led by Prof. Sunny Jung at Cornell University has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher. The primary project is about fluid mechanics related to Marangoni flows, but we will explore various mechanics problems inspired by biological systems. This position includes a 12-month initial appointment, available starting January 15th (2022), with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance. 

Duties and Responsibilities 
 • Advise and teach undergraduate and graduate students. Many of our projects are performed collaboratively with undergraduate and graduate students. Effective communications and relevant trainings for the students are required. (35%)
 • Developing a new project in bio-fluid mechanics using the wind + water tunnel. (25%) 
 • Writing and publishing peer reviewed research papers (25%) 
 • Writing proposals for external funding for research projects. (15%) 

Requirements 
 • A PhD degree in mechanics or physics or a closely related field Preferred Skills 
 • Strong experimental skills 
 • Deep understanding in theoretical mechanics
 • Computer programming

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
