The ILR School of Cornell University is pleased to announce its first postdoctoral fellowship in U.S. Labor and Working-Class History. The fellowship is intended to support recent PhDs and, more generally, the field of Labor History. We define the field broadly to include the study of workers’ experiences in their jobs, organizations, and or communities, or how their labor intersects with questions of citizenship, class, race/ethnicity, disability, gender, religion, and sexuality, among other areas of inquiry. Applicants whose scholarship uses the ILR School’s Kheel Center for Labor-Management Documentation & Archives and Catherwood Library are especially encouraged to apply.

This is a three-year appointment that will begin on July 1, 2022 and is located on the Ithaca, NY campus.

The annual salary for the position is $60,000, with the opportunity to earn up to $75,000 through additional summer teaching. The fellows will also receive $2,000 in research funds (annually), office space, and health benefits.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

Fellows will teach one course in the fall and one in the spring. In the first year, fellows will teach Introduction to U.S. Labor History for both semesters, but will have the opportunity to develop their own courses in subsequent years.

Qualifications:

·         Applicants must expect to receive their PhDs by June 2022, or have received their PhDs in the last three years (since 2019).

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest describing research and teaching interests in the area of Labor History, a curriculum vita, a research statement, a statement of contribution to diversity, equity, and inclusion, dissertation introduction and select chapter or article, and the name and contact information of three academic references.
