Duke Kunshan University invites applications to fill a tenure-line faculty position in environmental social science (open rank) to start as early as July 2022.  The position will be part of the Environment Program, which includes the Environmental Research Center and international Master of Environmental Policy (iMEP) degree program. The selected candidate will contribute to a research and education program for evidence-based environmental policy studies with a focus on empirical methods. Desired expertise for the environmental social scientist includes, but is not limited to, environmental policy analysis, law and governance, public policy, political science, environmental negotiation, environmental economics, survey methods, and applied quantitative analysis. Topics such as air and water pollution, energy, climate change, food, and conservation are of particular interest.

The candidate will join a core group of faculty with expertise in environmental economics, policy, and science as part of the Environment Program’s interdisciplinary research and education initiative. The iMEP program was launched in fall 2017 at Duke Kunshan as a Duke University degree issued jointly by Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment and Sanford School of Public Policy. The Environmental Research Center is an interdisciplinary research hub that hosts cutting-edge environmental science and policy studies in China and beyond. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in public policy, political science, economics, or related areas. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to conduct outstanding independent research and a commitment to teaching. Candidates whose research is interdisciplinary and centered on environmental policy are strongly encouraged to apply.

Duke Kunshan University is a partnership of Duke University and Wuhan University in Kunshan, China (https://dukekunshan.edu.cn)*. The campus is 37 miles west of Shanghai, and is connected to Shanghai via an 18-minute high-speed train and a subway-light rail train system.
