Position Description:

*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The College of Arts & Sciences Writing Program at Boston University expects to hire several full-time Lecturers in Writing to begin in January 2023. Responsibilities include teaching three classes per semester—theme-based first-year writing seminars and/or classes for multilingual writers—and participating in program service and professional development activities. The initial term of appointment is two years, with the possibility of renewal and promotion.

Successful candidates will have significant experience (5+ years) teaching writing. They will have a demonstrable commitment to inclusive pedagogy and to teaching writing in ways that equitably serve BU’s many multilingual students. We are especially interested in applicants who can expand the topical or disciplinary range of our theme-based first-year classes, who are flexible in the range of courses they are prepared to teach, and who have experience in at least one of the following areas: TESOL, writing in the disciplines, accessible teaching practices, place-based learning, or teaching with technology. We strongly encourage candidates from historically marginalized groups to apply.

The Writing Program is an independent instructional unit with more than fifty full-time unionized Lecturers. We offer a two-semester sequence of theme-based writing seminars through which most BU undergraduates satisfy their writing requirements (16-18 students each), and we prepare international undergraduate students for writing in their college classes through an additional two-course sequence for multilingual writers (15 students each). BU offers a rich range of resources for professional development and course enhancement. More information about the Arts & Sciences Writing Program is available at http://www.bu.edu/writingprogram/ and at https://www.bu.edu/teaching-writing/.

Boston University is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We are a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.
