INTRODUCTION
The Department of History at the University of Connecticut welcomes applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Early Modern Europe (1350-1700). Geographic specialization is open, excluding England and Ireland. The Department is particularly interested in candidates with teaching and research interests in one or more of the following areas: Renaissance or Reformation history, history of science, history of medicine, or global connections of Europe. We are also interested in candidates with strong language abilities and, relatedly, teaching and research interests that can deepen connections with the Literatures, Cultures, Languages, and English Departments.
The successful candidate will teach 4 courses per year at the Storrs campus, including an undergraduate lecture (either HIST 1200 Early Modern Global History or HIST 1300 Western Traditions before 1500) and advanced undergraduate or graduate courses in their area of interest. The candidate will share a deep commitment to effective and inclusive instruction and mentoring for a diverse student population. Development of a strong, ongoing research trajectory through high-quality publications, and engagement in service and outreach activities will also be expected
The Department of History has 41 tenure stream faculty members, 5 non-tenure stream faculty members, 40 graduate students, and 300 undergraduate majors (https://history.uconn.edu). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in history or a related field (or international equivalent) by August 2023.
- Strong research focus aligned with the description above.
- Commitment to effective and inclusive teaching with a diverse student population.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong record of refereed publications.
- Success in securing extramural funding.
- Aptitude for teaching introductory lecture courses.
- Experience in teaching and/or mentoring first-generation, non-traditional, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) college students.
- Ability to teach tutorials in Latin or another relevant research language.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a 9-month, tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2023. Teaching load includes two courses per semester. The successful candidate’s primary appointment will be at the Storrs. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
