Position Description
The Thompson Writing Program at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, invites applications for several Lecturers in Writing Studies. The Lecturer's primary teaching responsibility will be to teach five sections of First-Year Academic Writing per academic year, using innovative writing pedagogy in at least one section per year, but responsibilities may also include, as part of the regular course load, upper-level writing courses as programmatic and broader curricular needs dictate. In addition to their teaching, Lecturers will demonstrate ongoing scholarly engagement in the field of writing studies and take an active role in assessment, service, and programmatic efforts essential to the TWP’s mission to advance the teaching of writing at Duke.Lecturers will be part of a program dedicated to teaching first-year academic writing, building writing curriculum and course offerings, and supporting faculty teaching with writing at all levels of the curriculum and for undergraduate writers throughout their careers at Duke. The Lecturer position at Duke is a non-tenure track, regular-rank position and affords the possibility for reappointment and promotion to Senior Lecturer. The position has a start date of July 1, 2023, with an initial appointment of three years; these Lecturer positions are envisioned as an integral and stable element of the Thompson Writing Program and so are renewable with longer-term contracts upon completion of successful reviews. Salary is competitive with a strong benefits package, and with opportunities for professional development.
Successful applicants will have a Ph.D. with specialization in Rhetoric and Composition. Applicants should have demonstrated scholarly engagement in Writing Studies and are expected to demonstrate ongoing scholarly engagement and dissemination.
