About the Role:
The Centre for Theoretical Physics (CTP) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) seeks three outstanding theorists to work on areas including Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT), algebraic aspects of quantum systems, Conformal Field Theory (CFT), integrability, black hole physics, and the AdS/CFT duality broadly defined. One position will work primarily in areas involving TQFT, CFT, quantum information, and quantum computation. The second and third positions will work on aspects of the AdS/CFT duality, including but not limited to black hole physics, microstate counting, integrability, and holographic CFTs.
About You:
Successful candidates will hold (or be about to receive) a PhD (or equivalent) in theoretical physics and have expertise in aspects of theoretical physics relevant to the above positions. Moreover, they are expected to work with CTP academics, postdocs and PhD students, and bring research experience in several key areas mentioned above. Strong analytical skills, effective teamwork, and ability to work independently are crucial.
About the Centre:
The CTP is home to a leading group in non-perturbative and geometrical aspects of quantum field theory and string theory, with current members including Matthew Buican, Costis Papageorgakis, Sanjaye Ramgoolam, Rodolfo Russo, David Vegh, and Congkao Wen. Our physics interests are broad, with a recent focus on TQFT, CFT, algebraic aspects of quantum systems, integrability, black hole physics, and holography. The positions will provide the successful candidates with an exceptional opportunity to become part of a highly active Research Centre focused on fertile and vibrant areas of theoretical physics.
Benefits:
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days annual leave (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to comprehensive personal and professional development opportunities. Additionally, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.
The posts are based at the Mile End Campus in London. These are full-time (35 hours), fixed-term appointments for two years, with an expected start date of October 1, 2023. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £36,348 - £40,386 per annum pro-rata, inclusive of London Allowance.
Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr Matthew Buican m.buican@qmul.ac.uk, Dr Costis Papageorgakis c.papageorgakis@qmul.ac.uk, Dr Sanjaye Ramgoolam s.ramgoolam@qmul.ac.uk, Dr Rodolfo Russo r.russo@qmul.ac.uk, Dr David Vegh d.vegh@qmul.ac.uk, or Dr Congkao Wen congkao.wen@qmul.ac.uk
