About NSFC Excellent Young Scholars Fund (Overseas)
The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Excellent Young Scholars Fund (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage overseas outstanding young scholars (including non-Chinese foreigners) who have made good achievements in natural science, engineering and technology to work in China. TDLI sincerely invites global talents to apply for 2023 NSFC Excellent Young Scholars Fund (Overseas)!
Application
Requirements
- Abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, have good scientific ethics, and consciously practice the spirit of scientists in the new era
- Born on or after January 1, 1983
- Have a doctorate degree
- In principle, applicants should have obtained a formal teaching or research position in an overseas university, college or scientific research institute for more than 36 consecutive months before March 15, 2023. (For those applicants who obtained an overseas doctorate degree and with outstanding academic achievements, the required years of working may be reduced).

About TDLI
Proposed by the
Nobel laureate Professor Tsung-Dao Lee and with support and endorsement from
governments and ministries at national and municipal levels, Tsung-Dao Lee Institute
(TDLI) is a basic research institute established at Shanghai Jiao Tong
University in November 2016, aiming to build itself as a world-leading science
institute. Resonating with Professor Lee’s vision, the Institute focuses on the
most fundamental science questions, and conducts cutting-edge research in
physics and astronomy in an effort to shed light on the relationship between
the largest and the smallest in the universe, and the most fundamental and
profound laws of interaction in the nature.
By bringing our research to extreme environments or creating extreme conditions, we strive to explore and control exotic and extreme states of matter with extreme detection methods. Eying on the greatest unsolved mysteries of the universe, we are pledged to systemically assemble our teams to carry out pioneering research and collaboration on particle and nuclear physics, astronomy and astrophysics, and quantum science. Today, we’ve witnessed an emergence of innovations and an increasingly active presence in the science community. Looking forward, we envision fostering a supportive, inclusive culture of 桃(táo)李(lǐ)荫(yīn)翳(yì)家(jiā)安(ān)其(qí)所(suǒ) (A verse from classical Chinese poetry describes a harbour where the talented are cultivated and empowered to happily explore their full potential, and people from the outside admire and wish to join.)
TDLI has established three experimental platforms, the dark matter & neutrino experimental platform, laboratory astrophysics experimental platform, and Topological Superconducting Quantum Physics Experimental Platform. These experimental platforms, coordinating with three Vanguard Observation Sites in Jinping Sichuan, Cold Lake Qinghai, and the South China Sea, are to carry out research on the extreme states of matter in an attempt to seek discoveries on the nature of dark energy and dark matter, formation and evolution of the universe, exotic quantum states of matter. A powerful HPC with a 6 PetaFLOPS computer system, launched TDLI on December 14th 2021, is capable of providing strong support for theoretical and numerical simulations.
Located in the core area of Zhangjiang Science City, Pudong New Area, Shanghai, TDLI’s new campus was inaugurated at the end of 2021. The campus covers an area of 2.73 hectares, with a total construction area of 56,000 square meters. The building consists of a 5-floor south building, a 6-floor north building, and a glass sphere connecting the two buildings. Meanwhile, a number of facilities are under construction with the support of Pudong New Area’s government, including the waterfront platform TDLI Bay, a 4.5 km walking trail surrounding the campus, and the scientist apartment. TDLI community strives to provide our members with the most conducive working and living environment.
