Job Description:
Farmingdale State College seeks to hire two (2) full-time, tenure track Assistant Professors (10 months) in the Department of Urban Horticulture and Design. Qualified applicants must possess a broad-based knowledge and practical skill set in the field of landscape design and/or landscape architecture including all aspects of digital project representation. Proven teaching and professional practice experience is strongly preferred. Teaching obligations (12 contact hours per semester, teaching modalities include day and evening classes, including online and hybrid formats) may address topics such as introductory landscape drafting and design, site engineering, landscape construction, sustainable/urban design principles, principles of professional practice, and mentorship of student project work. Knowledge of landscape plants and how they are effectively employed in designed spaces is desirable. The selected candidates will pursue appropriate scholarly (peer-reviewed) activities and contribute service at the Department and College level to include committee participation, student recruitment/advisement and curriculum development. Those applicants selected for interviews will be invited to submit documentation of their qualifications such as a portfolio of creative work and pedagogy, a research plan, and professional references.

All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching; research & scholarly activity (which includes creative and artistic works); and service. The successful candidate(s) will demonstrate an interest and high-level of competence in teaching (teaching modalities include day and evening classes, including online and hybrid formats). Candidates should also have a creative/research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty - this may include published or commissioned artwork created for professional clients within a competitive environment; or work in peer-reviewed publications, exhibitions, and presentations. Service includes advising students as well as serving on departmental and college-wide committees. All three components are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College.

The college particularly welcomes candidates with knowledge, skills and abilities that include:

Commitment to diversity and university initiatives supportive of diversity and inclusion.
