INTRODUCTION

The Human Development and Family Sciences Department at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure-track Research and Teaching Scholar (Assistant Research Professor) with a focus on evaluation of community-based services with historically marginalized individuals. This is a two-year position, renewed annually, to conduct research in the Center for Applied Research in Human Development (CARHD) and teach one related undergraduate course per year. The position is partially funded by the sponsoring faculty member, Dr. Beth Russell, Associate Professor of Human Development and Family Sciences and CARHD Director.

The successful candidate will contribute to existing CARHD evaluations of community-based services across research areas, with opportunity to develop their own lines of inquiry in our applied research center. The position involves contributing to evaluations of applied projects in partnership with several community partners seeking to reduce disparities through implementing human services (e.g., school-based services for historically marginalized students) and public health programs (i.e., behavioral health service linkage and utilization). Strong quantitative expertise and interest in applied research in communities characterized by intersecting identities that are historically marginalized are preferred.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary cohort of CLAS Teaching and Research Scholars and will be offered training and support related to teaching, career development, and resources.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinating data management (e.g., merging large data files, processing missing data/duplicate cases).
• Supervising and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
• Managing IRB submissions.
• Analyzing data (descriptive, regression, multivariate analyses).
• Assisting with qualitative data collection and analysis (thematic analysis of interviews/focus groups).
• Preparing publications and conference presentations as well as research briefs intended for a broad audience (collaboratively and as lead author).
• Teaching one course per year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to teach one undergraduate course related to area of interest in Human Development and Family Sciences.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment. 
• Doctoral degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in human development and family sciences, psychology, prevention science, education, social work, or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment.
• Excellent academic writing skills.
• Experience managing large-scale datasets.
• The ability to contribute through research and teaching to the diversity and excellence of the Department. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Beginning track record of publication. 
• Demonstrated ability to teach courses in diversity issues or individual and family development. 
• Excellent interpersonal skills, especially with community agencies. 
• Experience conducting program evaluations and/or research in low-income diverse communities. 
• Experience conducting qualitative interviews or focus groups. 
• Expertise in quantitative methodology (i.e., HLM, mediation and moderation effects, multigroup SEM).

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2023. The position is physically located on the main campus of the University of Connecticut at Storrs, CT.
