Academic Job Description Department of Ecology & Evolutionary
Biology Postdoctoral Associate The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University embraces diversity and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that supports students, faculty, and staff of all identities and backgrounds. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or marginalized identities to apply. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS)
is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and home to Cornell University’s second
largest population of students, faculty and staff. We work across disciplines
to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education
and outreach. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three
overlapping concerns: natural and human systems; food, energy and environmental
resources; and social, physical and economic well-being. CALS is
fundamentally invested in improving the lives of people, their environments and
their communities both in New York state and around the world. Position Function This postdoctoral position involves primary research and related professional activities associated with developing theory to understand life history evolution and the ecology of infection. This
role involves developing models to understand life history strategies and
leverage time series data from human and rodent malaria infections to test
existing theory, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals and
presentation of results at professional meetings. Anticipated Division of Time Research (100%) The postdoc will play a leading role in developing theory and improved statistical approaches to understand diverse life history in parasites, especially tradeoffs between growth and reproduction. Research projects will examine the evolution of reproductive investment and non-classical drug resistance, with the potential to investigate when life history strategies should be environmentally responsive versus genetically determined. The postdoc will work independently but will also contribute to intellectual interactions within the lab, and with collaborators in other labs. The postdoc will be expected to draft and submit research articles to top-tier scientific journals and present their research at professional meetings and conferences. This is a one-year
term position, renewable depending on funding, available work, and performance. Requirements The
applicant must have a PhD in biology, mathematics or a related discipline and significant
experience in modeling population dynamics (familiarity with time series data
and/or population dynamic models strongly preferred). Supervision Exercised May supervise federal work study students and/or undergraduate
researchers.
To apply: Please apply via Academic Jobs Online https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/24332 Qualified candidates should submit a short cover letter, curriculum vitae, contact information for three references, and a statement of contribution to diversity, equity and inclusion via the website. is $54,840.
