School of Physics and Astronomy (SPA), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) (www.physics.sjtu.edu.cn) invites applications for chair professor, tenured/tenure-track faculty positions in Physics and Astronomy. We welcome highly promised and top-rated applicants in physics and astronomy and related fields.

-Particle and nuclear physics: including particle astrophysics (dark matter and neutrino physics), particle physics with high energy colliders, nuclear and hadronic physics, etc.

-Condensed matter physics, including strongly correlated systems, computational many-body physics, quantum matter at interfaces and in low dimensions, semiconductor & (mid)infrared devices, solar energy physics & applications, high Tc superconductor applications, etc.

-Atomic, molecular and optical physics, including nonlinear optics, photonics, nano-devices, quantum optics, quantum information & computation, ultra-cold atomic & molecular systems, etc.

-Accelerator and plasma physics, including high-power laser technologies, high energy density physics, plasma physics, accelerator physics, free-electron laser, ultrafast electron diffraction, ultrafast science, etc.

-Interdisciplinary physics, including non-equilibrium statistical physics, complex systems, soft matter and biophysics, nonlinear dynamics, etc.

-Astronomy and astrophysics, including observational cosmology, theoretical cosmology, galaxy formation, galaxy dynamics, stellar physics, time domain astronomy and exoplanets, etc.

The faculty at SPA are expected to carry out teaching, independent forefront research and supervise students (both Ph.D. and undergraduate students). SJTU and SPA will provide internationally competitive salary, housing subsidy, and start-up fund. Also, we will provide the well-decorated transitional talent apartments, high-quality medical services, as well as preferential admission policies and conditions for applicants' children.

The SJTU physics program, established in 1906, was one of the two earliest in China. In 1978, an applied physics program was re-established in SJTU. In 2007, SJTU made a strategic decision to rebuild a top-class and full scale physics program. Fueled by adoption of tenure-track system (2009, one of the earliest in China) and recruiting of many outerstanding faculty members from worldwide, the Department underwent a decade of rapid growth. In 2013, the Department established a strong program of Astronomy and Astrophysics, and was subsequently renamed as the Department of Physics and Astronomy. In 2015, the Department was further renamed as the School of Physics and Astronomy (SPA).

SPA strives to pursue cutting edge scientific discoveries and technological innovations, to promote global scientific collaborations, and to cultivate future academic leaders. SPA presently owns a large body of high quality faculty, and covers a broad range of research area. It is widely regarded as one of the most vigorous and comprehensive physics departments nationwide. Now SJTU physics is the National First-Class Subject, and was ranked 33th worldwide (4th in China) by 2023 US News Subject Rankings. SPA hosts a national collaborative innovation center, three key laboratories of the Ministry of Education and one Shanghai key laboratory, and computational physics platform, micro-nano machining and testing platform and other public platforms.

Applicants should submit CV (including a publication list), a brief research and teaching statement, a research plan and at least three reference letters. For other inquires please send an email to hrphy@sjtu.edu.cn.
