Chapman University’s Schmid College of Science and Technology seeks part-time faculty members to fill positions for lab instructors of the General Chemistry Lab who can teach undergraduate students, beginning August 2023. Qualifications
● Masters (PhD preferred) in chemistry, biochemistry, environmental science (or related field) 
● University or community college teaching experience, specifically with general chemistry courses. 
● Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing. 
● Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching, and academic excellence. 
● Ability to motivate and teach students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds. 
● Appreciation and respect for student role, contribution, and responsibility in the learning process. 
● Commitment to personalized education 

Responsibilities 
Instruct an assigned 4-hour lab section once a week. This includes preparing for and delivering a 30-45 minute lecture about the lab material, instructing students in correct laboratory techniques, holding weekly office hours, and grading all assignments submitted by the students. A mixture of lectures and active learning opportunities using evidence-based teaching practices is preferred for the pre-lab lecture. The lab section times are 8:00-11:50 AM, 1:00-4:50 PM, or 6:00-9:50 PM Monday-Friday, depending on availability. The instructor must be available to attend mandatory, once-a-week general chemistry instructor meetings.
