Baystate Health, is Western Massachusetts’s premier healthcare provider and home to Baystate Medical Practices, the largest multispecialty group in the region. Baystate Medical Center, is also the region’s only level 1 trauma center and pediatric trauma center.

The Department for Healthcare Delivery and Population Sciences (DHDPS) at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School–Baystate is seeking a Director / Vice-Chair for Quantitative Methods Core, who reports to the Department Chair. This position is a key member of the Departmental leadership team, with broad responsibility for incorporating state-of-the-art methods into the research initiatives across the Department, oversight of study design and analytic methods, and supervision of the biostatistician team.

An applicant for this position should be an experienced biostatistician or epidemiologist with a history of NIH (or equivalent) funding. This position comes with a faculty appointment at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School – Baystate, with opportunities for adjunct appointments at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School.

Job Responsibilities:

- Work collaboratively with other faculty and fellows within the Department to develop NIH, AHRQ and foundation -supported grant applications; the Vice-Chair will take primary responsibility for the development and writing of the analytic strategy and related sections. - Serve as Co-Investigator or Principal investigator on investigator-initiated research grants, and serve as a mentor on mentored career development awards. - Directly supervise the Quantitatve methods core within the Department, with responsibility for a team currently comprised of 2 Masters level and 2 PhD prepared biostatisticians. In this capacity plan, supervise, and conduct data management activities and statistical analyses for internally and externally funded projects. - Collaborate with Departmental faculty to prepare and submit abstracts for presentation at scientific meetings and manuscripts for peer reviewed publication. - Provide leadership for the selection and maintenance of hardware environments and statistical software needed to support the research being done within the Department; develop annual budgets to support those requirement. - Maintain expertise with respect to federal and state data management, security and privacy requirements - Collaboration: Work with BH Info Security to plan and implement hardware, software and processes consistent with local, state and federal requirements.

Desired expertise and work experience:

- Doctoral degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or a related field - Experience as a coinvestigator or principal investigator on a grant with NIH or equivalent funding - History of funding as a Co-Investigator or Principal Investigator from NIH or an equivalent funding agency - Expertise in research methods used in health services research - Experience with the design and conduct of randomized trials, including clustered designs, and stepped-wedge designs - Expertise in observational causal inference methods, including propensity and instrumental variable methods; experience working with large observational data sets, including Medicare claims - Experience with contemporary approaches to data management & security - Experience with contemporary data visualization methods
