Position Description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral scholar to work on the novel subject of giant planet seismology, developing expectations for seismic signatures and detection techniques for gas and ice giants. The first year of the position would be spent at Caltech (with Professor Jim Fuller) working on excitation mechanisms of planetary oscillation modes. The second year would be spent at JPL (with Marzia Parisi) working on seismic detection techniques for a mission to Uranus. A third year is possible, subject to performance and availability of funds.

Applicants should submit (1) a CV, including a publication list, (2) contact information of at least three professional references, (3) summary of previous, current and anticipated research relevant to this opening (limited to three pages). Application materials should be addressed to Jim Fuller and sent to jfuller@caltech.edu. Applicants must hold a PhD degree in planetary sciences, astrophysics, or related field by the starting date (between October 2023 and September 2024). Complete applications submitted by August 31, 2023 will receive full consideration, but review of applications will continue until a suitable candidate has been identified.

The minimum salary for the position is $68k per year. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, qualifications, skills, education, specialty, training, and internal equity.
