FACULTY APPOINTMENT IN BASIC SCIENCE OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE
The Duke University School of Medicine invites applications for a faculty appointment at the level of tenure-track Assistant Professor for an individual conducting transformational basic research related to Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Combined experimental/artificial intelligence research programs are welcomed as are applicants using any model organism, including human brain models and possibly material from the Bryan Brain Bank or other AD-relevant tissue or biofluid repositories at Duke. Successful candidates will have track records of creativity and productivity, demonstrated potential for outstanding future achievements, and a desire to participate in an exciting, collaborative, and growing community of academic scientists studying the functioning brain and how aging and disease affects it. They will be expected to interact with the Duke/UNC Alzheimer’s Research Disease Center, mount a productive and innovative research program, to obtain outside funding, and to participate actively in graduate education. Physician-scientists could be appointed in the Department of Neurology with space in the Neurobiology Building, PhD scientists would be appointed in either Neurobiology or Cell Biology, depending on the best environment for their research. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae; a summary of current and proposed research (maximum 3 pages); a 1-page outline of how they will engage with the community, including a description of their teaching philosophy, previous experiences, and approach and plans for fostering an inclusive learning and mentoring environment for their future students and a professional work climate for all colleagues; reprints of 3 key publications; and 3 letters of recommendation.
