Description

The 2024 Van Bibber Fellowship is now open to receive applications. This annual fellowship recruits young and promising scientists to work in experimental physics at Stanford University in the area of fundamental particles and interactions. We are soliciting applications from experimental physicists with an emphasis on developing instrumentation and techniques relevant to investigating fundamental physics questions in areas including experimental particle physics, and atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics. Current Stanford postdocs and graduate students are ineligible to apply.

The appointment includes three years of support with an initial annual salary of $80,000 and benefits (https://postdocbenefits.stanford.edu/), with $5,000 per annum in discretionary funds to cover research and/or travel expenses. In addition, Stanford University offers significant professional development support to postdocs for a wide variety of career paths. Postdocs may also choose to be involved in the broader department and university community through student mentorship, committees, and broader campus events and organizations.

Candidates must submit a curriculum vitae including a full publication list, and a two-page research statement summarizing proposed research, previous accomplishments, and expertise that the candidate brings to the Stanford community. As part of the research statement, candidates must identify a host faculty member within the Stanford Physics department. Applicants are encouraged (but not required) to reach out to potential faculty hosts to discuss their research proposal. Candidates should also request three letters of reference to be separately submitted.

The deadline for applications for the 2024 competition will be 12:00pm PST on Monday, November 13th, 2023. Appointments will begin between June – December 2024. Applicants are required to have a PhD (or equivalent) in physics or a related discipline by the start of the appointment. More details, including a list of frequently asked questions, are available on the Physics department webpage (https://physics.stanford.edu/van-bibber-fellowship-experimental-physics).
