The University Writing Program at Brandeis University invites applications for three full-time lecturers, beginning Fall 2024. We seek experienced instructors with backgrounds teaching writing across the disciplines, including professional writing, writing for business, and social science writing. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to, and excellence in, undergraduate teaching as well as experience in the teaching of writing. A PhD is required. The position is full-time, benefits-eligible, and outside the tenure structure. The initial appointment could be up to three years, with the possibility of renewal.

Successful candidates will be innovative instructors responsible for teaching three first-year, topic-based writing seminars per semester and/or basic writing. The Lecturers will develop topics for their courses with an emphasis on interdisciplinarity to better serve our students with an interest in the sciences and social sciences. We seek dynamic educators who enjoy collaboration and wish to play an active role in shaping the future of the Writing Program and in working with the broader University community.

Brandeis is a Research I institution with a strong liberal arts program and an emphasis on teaching excellence. Writing is valued at Brandeis and, in addition to first year writing classes, Brandeis requires majors to complete a writing intensive course that teaches writing within their discipline.

We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential components of academic excellence. As an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer, Brandeis University is committed to creating equitable access and opportunities for applicants to all employment positions. Because diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of Brandeis’ history and mission, we value and are seeking candidates with a variety of social identities, including those that have been underrepresented in higher education, who possess skills that spark innovation, and who, through their scholarly pursuits, teaching, and/or service experiences, bring expertise in building, engaging and sustaining a pluralistic, unified, and just campus community. In addition, we seek candidates who have experience teaching students from a broad range of educational backgrounds or are prepared to use innovative methods to teach writing to students with varying degrees of academic preparation.

Applicants should submit:

● Letter of application that addresses relevant experience ● Curriculum vitae ● A 1 page statement on your contributions to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, including information about your understanding of these issues, your record of professional activities, mentoring, and contributions to the discipline that are indicators of your commitment to advancing equity and inclusion if hired as a Brandeis faculty member ● Statement of teaching philosophy ● A sample course syllabus, with writing assignments

Because Brandeis University is committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of faculty effort, applicants should address at least one of these areas in their cover letter and/or the teaching statement. Candidates should also indicate how their experiences, interests, commitments or future goals could promote and build Program and institutional pluralism, justice, or unity.
