The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor Position in quantum engineering, broadly defined. Under exceptional circumstances, more experienced senior candidates may be considered. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: quantum computation, quantum photonics, quantum sensing, quantum simulation, and quantum networks. The position is expected to be available July 1, 2024.

The department has a vibrant research program in novel, leading-edge research areas, has a strong interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research culture with great national and international visibility, and is ranked #1 nationally in faculty productivity.* With multiple faculty involved in quantum computation, quantum materials, quantum devices, quantum photonics, and condensed matter physics, Rice considers these areas as focal points of quantum research in the coming decade and has created a new campus-wide initiative, the Rice Quantum Initiative, to further expand collaborative efforts in these areas.

The successful applicant will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and build a successful research program. The successful candidate will possess a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. is required, postdoctoral experience is preferred, and the Ph.D. requirements must be fulfilled by November 1 of the year employment commences.
