Position Description
The Chair for Theoretical Physics III at Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg invites applications for a postdoctoral position starting in Fall 2024 for research at the intersection of Gauge/Gravity Duality, Condensed Matter Physics and Hydrodynamics. The position will be funded by Project C09 "Hydrodynamics and Gauge/Gravity Duality for Strongly Correlated Electron Systems" led by Principal Investigators Prof. Dr. Johanna Erdmenger and Priv.-Doz. Dr. René Meyer. This project is part of the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1170 'ToCoTronics'. The appointment will be for a period of two years with the possibility of extension to a third year upon positive evaluation. We are searching for a highly motivated candidate with background and expertise in both gauge/gravity duality and condensed matter physics. The salary level is determined according to the German public service pay scale TVÖD E13. Female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants with disabilities will be preferentially considered in case of equivalent qualification. The Chair for Theoretical Physics III at Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg is internationally known for its research on gauge/gravity duality and its applications. It hosts scientists working on fields closely related to the focus of this position, such as string theory, AdS/CFT, gravity, quantum information theory, and theoretical condensed matter physics. Moreover, it provides a stimulating international research environment with numerous scientific visitors each year, as well as by organizing workshops and conferences (such as Gauge/Gravity Duality 2018 or Quantum Information meets Gravity in 2023) in areas relevant to this position. Moreover, the SFB 1170 allows for close collaboration with the theoretical as well as experimental condensed matter physics groups at Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg. Finally, there exist strong ties to groups in Dresden working on related topics via the Cluster of Excellence "Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter" ct.qmat.
