Position Description
The School of Engineering at Rice University, located in Houston, TX, seeks applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024. The successful candidate will join as a McNair Scholar and a core member of the Rice Neuroengineering Initiative (NEI). They will join an expanding team of world-class researchers focused on its mission to improve lives by restoring and extending the capabilities of the human brain. Since its formation in 2018, the Rice NEI is on pace to double its membership from seven core tenure-track faculty members to an anticipated fifteen by July of 2024. Located adjacent to the Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical centers in the world, the NEI membership comprises faculty from Rice University, the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Methodist, and the University of Texas McGovern Medical School.
With support from the McNair Foundation, the Rice NEI is leading the recruitment and selection of one McNair Scholar position in Neuroengineering. The successful candidate will possess expertise in computational and/or experimental neuroengineering, with potential impact areas including, but not limited to: neuromodulation, neuroprosthesis, regenerative medicine/ aging, diagnosis of neurological conditions and disorders, as well as fundamental and clinical neurosciences. The selected candidate will have the option to join any of the 9 academic departments in the School of Engineering. Outstanding candidates at higher ranks may also be considered.
The selected candidate will be expected to perform high-quality research in their specialized area and present findings from their research in peer-reviewed publications and conferences; establish a strong research program supported by extramural funding; be involved in service to the university and broader scientific community; and collaborate with faculty in diverse disciplines. Instruction of undergraduate and graduate courses within areas of expertise will also be required. Rice University requires candidates to have a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications
All candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree conferred by July 1, 2024, and all areas of engineering and science will be considered. All applicants should demonstrate excellence in scholarship, teaching, and collegial service.
