The TESS-ULTRASAT Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct independent research focused on either stellar or transient astrophysics with relation to the TESS and ULTRASAT space missions. The fellow will have full access to all the resources available at WIS or MIT, depending on location, including at WIS the Palomar Transient Factory (PTF) and its ZTF successor, the ULTRASAT UV space mission, MMT 6.5m, NTT 3.6m/SOXS, the Large Array Survey Telescope (LAST), and the under-construction MAST and PAST facilities, and at MIT the 6.5m Magellan Telescopes, the WINTER 1-meter optical/IR survey telescope, and all facilities accessible to the US community (e.g., through NOIRLab and NASA Keck Time). Both WIS and MIT provide extensive computational facilities. The fellow will collaborate with members of the TESS team at MIT (George Ricker, Avi Shporer), and members of the ULTRASAT team at WIS (Eli Waxman, Avishay Gal-Yam, Eran Ofek, Sagi Ben-Ami, Yossi Shvartzvald). Candidates should submit the application materials through the submission webpage including CV, publication list, research statement that includes a summary of previous achievements (up to 4 pages), research proposal (up to 3 pages), and three reference letters. Only web submissions will be accepted. Applications submitted by December 29, 2023, will receive full consideration. The Weizmann Institute Campus is located in Rehovot, a short distance from Tel Aviv, and offers excellent conditions for research in an international setting, and strong focus on research excellence. The TESS team at MIT is part of the MKI, situated on MIT campus in Cambridge, MA. MKI scientists routinely interact with members of the MIT Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS), Department of Physics, MIT LIGO Lab, and MIT Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFA). Required: Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field at the time of appointment, and ability to carry out an independent research program and work collaboratively with other members of the TESS and ULTRASAT communities. The fellow is expected to be in each of the two institutes, WIS and MIT, approximately half the time, and spend at least 4 months per year, on average, in each institute.
