Tenure Track Professor of Theatre Histories
The Department of Theatre at Pomona College, a private liberal arts college located in Southern California on the land of the Tongva, invites applications for an open rank Assistant or Associate Professor of Theatre to begin 1 July 2024. The individual holding this position is expected to teach 4 courses per academic year including: what has historically been called “Theatre History I and II” and could be more broadly defined as Oral and Indigenous traditions through Present Day, Dramaturgy, and a course in the candidate’s specialty.
We seek educators who are interested in collaborating with us to joyfully reimagine our courses in dramatic literature and theatrical histories to be relevant to the changing landscape of our field. We are also looking for candidates who are excited about supporting the selection of plays for our season and engaging their dramaturgy students with these productions. We welcome candidates who engage in and/or focus deeply in specific historical and archival locations and whose expertise might include Critical Race, Queer and Gender Studies, Cultural and Performance Studies, Indigenous, African American/Black, Latine/x, Asian Pacific American theatre, diasporic and/or international theatre, and decolonizing praxis. We are interested in candidates who are excited about best practices in theatre literature, history, theory, and pedagogy, and who are eager to be involved in the evolution of ethical, equitable, and inclusive educational practices.
Tenure expectations include teaching excellence, a pattern of productive scholarship or creative arts research outside of the Department, and effective participation in service to the Department and College. All tenure track faculty in the Department participate in undergraduate advising and mentoring. Service activities appropriate to rank are also required and potential for future leadership service is an additional consideration.
This position requires a Ph.D., D.F.A, or M.F.A. degree. Experience with college teaching (beyond graduate assistantships) and/or significant professional experience in the field is preferred. A candidate must understand the goals of theatre education within the liberal arts mission of the College and embody these goals in their teaching.

The salary for this position will range from $88-95K and will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. Pomona College also offers a competitive benefits package.
