Position Description
The Department of Theoretical Physics at the University of Geneva expects to hire up to two postdoctoral scientists starting in Fall 2024 in the area of holographic dualities, string theory and their connection to quantum chaos, associated mainly with the group of Professor Julian Sonner, but embedded in the wider scientific context of the DPT and the Geneva Physics department. We also keep active links with the CERN theory division and nearby theory groups at EPFL and the wider Swiss community via the SwissMAP collaboration (https://www.nccr-swissmap.ch). One of the two positions will fall under the framework of the HoloGraph consortium financed by the Quantum Initiative of the Swiss Federal Government (more detail below). The University of Geneva Department of Theoretical Physics has a number of groups working in High Energy Theory including those of Julian Sonner, Marcos Marino, Francesco Riva, Vincent Vargas, as well as Alba Grassi (UniGE Maths) which support an active and wide-ranging group of postdoctoral and PhD scientists. The positions are advertised for 2+1 years and come with an internationally competitive salary, travel funds and excellent working conditions. Candidates are kindly asked to provide a CV, a list of publications, a short research statement, as well as letters of reference from two senior scientists familiar with the candidate and their work to be submitted electronically via the AJO website. Candidates are requested to submit their material before the primary deadline, 22.12.2023, for full consideration. We commit to respecting the new deadline for acceptance of postdoctoral offers of 15 February. The University of Geneva is an Equal Opportunity Employer and actively encourages applications from under-represented groups. The HoloGraph Consortium consists of four PIs (Jean-Philippe Brantut (EPFL), Tilman Esslinger (ETHZ), Philipp Hauke (Trento), Julian Sonner (uniGE)) and their associated groups. The consortium is funded by the Swiss Federal Government (SERI) in the context of the Horizon Europe Replacement Transitional Quantum Call. The scientific goals of this consortium focus on laboratory realisations of holographic quantum matter via different cavity QED platforms in the labs of Profs. Brantut and Esslinger, together with theoretical underpinnings, focusing on formal aspects of holographic dualities as well as their relations to quantum simulation, from the groups of Profs. Hauke and Sonner.Application Materials Required:
