The Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) Department at Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in experimental aerodynamics with expertise in the areas of low- and/or high-speed flows, unsteady flow, turbulence, active flow control, or experimental methods. Core experimental expertise is required, but candidates possessing a complementary theoretical and/or a computational background, including in data-driven methods, are also encouraged to apply. Candidates are sought primarily at the Assistant Professor level, but midcareer and senior candidates with a strong record of sustained success in research, teaching, and service will also be considered. The expected start date is Fall 2024.

The MMAE Department at Illinois Tech offers ABET accredited degrees in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, and materials science and engineering, as well as a range of master’s degrees and doctoral degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering and materials science and engineering. The department is home to 22 full-time faculty, approximately 450 undergraduate and 150 graduate students, as well as several well-equipped laboratories in all areas of mechanical, materials, and aerospace engineering, including several wind tunnels. The Armour College of Engineering is home to six departments, emphasizes a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary research by faculty and students, and is committed to inclusive excellence in undergraduate, graduate, and professional education. The main campus is located three miles from downtown Chicago and in close proximity to many industries in the greater Chicago area.
