The laboratory of Dr. Alex Travis within the Baker Institute for Animal Health at Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine, is seeking a Research Associate candidate with experience in biochemistry and cell biology. Our lab explores a diverse set of subjects, including sperm function and physiology, and nano-technology and creation of novel medical diagnostics. The successful candidate will work on both NIH funded research aiming to investigate lipid regulation of ion channels in human and mouse sperm, as well as an externally-funded project on diagnostics for viral diseases.

The successful candidate will:
1.	Design and implement experimental procedures to investigate lipid-channel interactions in reproduction and metabolism;
2.	Utilize a wide range of approaches including biochemical, molecular, cellular and biophysical (particularly microscopy);  
3.	Design and perform experimental procedures to advance a diagnostic that can distinguish among multiple viruses that cause similar symptoms (e.g., distinguish among viral respiratory pathogens);
4.	Utilize a wide range of techniques under the broad heading of virology including nucleic acid extraction, protein purification, protein biochemistry, protein-protein interactions, enzyme assays, and tissue culture;  
5.	Support and co-lead writing of scientific papers and grant proposals;
6.	Supervise undergrad and grad students.
Qualifications:  Ph.D. in related fields. Experience with virology, cell biology, biochemistry, cell culture, and enzyme assays is desired. Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential for participating in our multi-disciplinary team. Strong work ethic, creativity, enthusiasm, and ability to work in a team are required.
This is a Full-time, one-year appointment with possible extension depending on funding and performance. 
The salary range for this position is $59,592 to $90,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
