(FORENSIC) ATTENDING PSYCHIATRIST, COURT-EVALUATION UNIT, WORCESTER RECOVERY CENTER AND HOSPITAL
The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) is seeking a full-time (40 hours per week) board-certified/board-eligible (forensic) psychiatrist to serve on one of the court-evaluation units (CEUs) at the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) in Worcester, MA. WRCH is a Department of Mental Health (DMH) state-of-the-art hospital that cares for adults with severe mental health conditions in our CEUs and continuing care units (CCUs). While forensic training is recommended, it is not required for interested psychiatrists to apply. Candidate will be recommended for a UMass Chan faculty appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor based on qualifications.
Job description:
- Admitting, providing care in a treatment team context, and discharging of individuals sent by Massachusetts courts for forensic evaluations.
- Typical census: 11 patients, weekly meetings, and notes.
- Monitoring psychopharmacologic treatment and overall treatment of patients on census and leading the clinical team.
- Collaborating with medical providers (physicians, mid-level providers, dentists, etc.) for comprehensive patient care.
- Interdisciplinary consultations, including with designated forensic professionals (DFPs) who conduct the court-ordered evaluations, neuropsychologists, neuropsychiatrists, and addiction specialists (on an as-needed basis).
- Collaborating and regularly consulting with the hospital legal team on individual cases regarding risk, commitment hearings, testimony, and other case-specific questions.
- Pursuing legal/forensic measures as necessary to ensure appropriate patient care, including civil commitment, guardianship, etc.
- On-the-job training and mentoring regarding Massachusetts-specific laws and statutes, testimony, and risk assessments.
- 8:00 am – 4:30 pm or 8:30 am – 5:00 pm schedule, family-friendly, with no required nights or weekend calls.
- Opportunity to join the on-call team for additional moonlighting with additional competitive reimbursement.
