We seek candidates interested in developing cutting-edge machine-learning tools applied to particle physics analyses with the LHC-ATLAS data and radiation-hard silicon detectors. 

Our postdoctoral fellows are for three years with the possibility of a 2-year renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs, and are provided with salaries comparable to those at other prestigious institutions. We may offer a higher position, at the rank of assistant professor, for five years with the possibility of a 2-year renewal to outstanding candidates.

The successful candidate is expected to make outstanding contributions to all of the following areas related to the ATLAS experiment:
• novel machine-learning techniques
• advanced state-of-the-art radiation-hard silicon detectors
• new methods to study di-Higgs final states or Long-Lived BSM searches.
The research activities mentioned above will be done as a member of the KEK-ATLAS group (*) and in line with its ongoing activities covering physics analyses and detector developments.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field by the time the appointment begins. Relevant knowledge/skills include machine-learning algorithm applications and/or radiation sensor development based on silicon. The position will be based at KEK with frequent travels to CERN, working with QUP PIs Yu Nakahama (ATLAS/KEK) and Manabu Togawa (ATLAS/KEK). The successful candidate is also expected to collaborate with other scientists at QUP, KEK, and QUP satellite laboratories in UC Berkeley, Toyota Central R&D Labs., and ISAS JAXA to contribute to interdisciplinary research at QUP.
