Position Description:
*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***
We seek candidates for an assistant professor in the systemology support section (SSS) of QUP. The SSS supports the concept studies of research-project candidates in QUP by applying a systems-engineering approach to research. The scientific objectives of the supporting candidates spread in a wide variety of experimental physics; from cosmology, particle physics, astrophysics, and so on, and the necessary technologies are also widespread including low-temperature cryogenic detectors and novel semiconductor devices. We are interested in an outstanding scientist with excellent track records and international recognition.
The successful candidate is expected to conduct his or her research using 30% FTE in collaboration with researchers in QUP.
Experience in systems engineering is preferable but not mandatory. The position is for five years, with the possibility of renewal of two years. Salaries are comparable to those at other prestigious institutions. The appointee will work with members of the SSS.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics (e.g. experimental physics in cosmology, particle physics, astrophysics) or a related field and more than three years of working experience after receiving a Ph.D.
As a WPI research center, QUP is designed to establish an international environment where more than 30% of researchers are non-Japanese. English is the official language of QUP. We will build a diverse community of scientists and strongly encourage female and international applicants. About 40% of initial PIs at QUP are female.
The posting shall remain open until the positions are filled. However, for full consideration, we encourage all candidates to apply by 31 January, 2024. Applicants should submit curriculum vitae (with an email address and citizenship), a research statement, and a list of publications. Applicants should also ensure that at least three letters of reference are submitted on their behalf.
