Position Description:    

Controlling and manipulating systems at the quantum level is of high interest in a broad range of today’s research fields. Especially, components and protocols utilized in quantum information processing, quantum computation and quantum measurement setups require a high amount of control to protect and preserve the quantum coherence of signals. Measurements are here the fundamental key to unravel the knowledge systems in the quantum domain. The measurement process itself entails the detection and amplification of small perturbations acting upon a system. High measurement efficiency requires that the process of amplification proceeds with as little noise contamination as allowed by the fundamental laws of physics. So-called quantum-limited amplifiers are thus a key component to harness quantumness for technological applications.

We are seeking two highly motivated and skilled researchers to join our dynamic team working on the theory of engineered quantum systems. You will be an integral part of our team, focusing on the development and refinement of models for unidirectional and quantum-limited Traveling Wave Amplifiers based on superconducting circuit architectures. Your responsibilities will extend to comparing theoretical models with experimental data, and conducting thorough theoretical characterizations, with a keen eye on noise characteristics and innovative parametric control protocols. We expect an active engagement in research collaborations both internally and externally to foster innovation and cross-disciplinary insights.

You have a PhD in physics and expertise in the theoretical modeling of open quantum systems, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Desirable would be experience in the modeling of parametrically driven systems, superconducting circuits and quantum amplifiers.

The positions will be offered for 2 years and are available as soon as possible.
