Position Description

The experimental high-energy physics (HEP) group at Duke University is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research position on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The HEP faculty at Duke are active in ATLAS, Mu2e, Belle II, and several neutrino experiments. Within ATLAS, the HEP group has particular data analysis interests in novel jet substructure investigations, and searches for new physics involving top quarks and heavy vector bosons. In addition, the group has a major involvement with the ATLAS tracking detectors and triggers, including the ITk strip detector upgrade, TRT operations, silicon tracking software, and jet triggering.

The successful candidate will be expected to play significant roles in the ITk strip detector upgrade, and in the physics analysis of ATLAS data. The position will be based primarily at CERN and/or BNL as determined by the needs of the project, with occasional short visits to Duke.

Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. in particle physics or expect to graduate with a Ph.D. by the start date and have experience with tracking detectors and data analysis in particle physics experiments.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interest and experience, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted to AcademicJobsOnline (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/27311yz). Questions regarding this search can be directed to Prof. Ayana Arce, Prof. Al Goshaw, Prof. Ashutosh Kotwal, or Prof. Mark Kruse {atarce,goshaw,kotwal,mkruse}@phy.duke.edu. Applications received by May 10th 2024 will receive full consideration. The position will remain open until filled.
