Position Description

The Department of Romance Studies at Boston University invites applications to fill a one-year non-renewable Visiting Assistant Professorship in medieval and early modern Iberian literature and culture (July 1, 2024-June 30, 2025). We are especially interested in candidates whose research and pedagogy explore the linguistic, religious and cultural diversity of the medieval and early modern Iberian Peninsula, particularly in relation to questions of race, sexuality, gender, language, and/or religion. Candidates should also be prepared to contribute to university initiatives focused on enhancing student engagement and fostering diversity and inclusion.

The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester in our undergraduate and graduate programs and assist with advising. Requirements include a PhD in hand by July 1, 2024, in Spanish literature or a related field; demonstrated excellence in research and teaching; and native or native-like proficiency in Spanish and English. Applicants should submit a letter of application that describes teaching and research interests; one representative writing sample (for example, an article, dissertation chapter, or conference paper); a CV; representative syllabi of courses taught; a statement on how their teaching and research would further Boston University’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (see https://www.bu.edu/diversity/ for more, including BU’s Diversity Statement); and three letters of recommendation https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/27328. Review of applications begins on March 29, 2024. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Inquiries may be directed to Michael Williams, Department of Romance Studies, mawillia@bu.edu.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We are a VEVRAA Federal Contractor. Individuals from historically under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.

Boston University strives to create environments for learning, working, and living that are enriched by racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity. We seek to cultivate an atmosphere of respect for individual differences in life experience, sexual orientation, and religious belief, and we aspire to be free of intellectual parochialism, barriers to access, and ethnocentrism.
