Description:
The program in Theater Arts at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, located in Cambridge Massachusetts, invites applicants to expand its pool of Lecturers in the areas described below.
When open, positions may be for the academic year, for single semesters, and/or ongoing. Start dates are generally in the Spring or Fall Semesters. The program offers supportive mentorship to junior faculty and instructors, an exceptional environment for active educators, practitioners and/ or scholars with a demonstrable commitment to exploring their work in a progressive academic environment, and a strong commitment to an inclusive, welcoming culture. Areas of expertise might include Acting, Physical Theater, Hip-Hop, Voice, Contemporary Dance/Movement, Production Design, Performance Media, Interactive Design, Dramaturgy, Theater & Performance Studies, Directing, and/or Dramatic Writing. We request that applications and other materials, including (a) curriculum vitae, (b) online portfolio (if available), (c) a cover letter, and (d) contact information for three references. The cover letter should include teaching and educational plans, and can include any additional information you wish to provide about mentoring and/or service. It is highly recommended that one of the references specifically discuss your teaching abilities, experience and/or potential. While there are no current permanent vacancies, we hope to expand our pool of instructional staff. All materials will be reviewed, and kept on file. Interviews when necessary will occur on a rolling basis.
Qualifications:
MFA, PhD, and/or equivalent professional experience required. Minimum of two years experience teaching in university or conservatory environments, and/or extensive instructional experience in alternative settings. The program in Theater Arts is as committed to new works as to new ways of working. Artist-educators are supported in bringing culture-conscious, collaborative, and flexible approaches to fostering inclusive classroom, production, and studio environments. Candidates with current contemporary practices and fluency in multiple traditions, techniques, social practices, and/or alternative dramaturgies are especially sought. Working hours may include evenings or weekends.
Program Overview:
Situated within the Music and Theater Arts section of the School of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences at MIT, the program in Theater Arts offers an array of courses and experiences in support of the Bachelor of Science Major, Minor, and Concentration in Theater Arts. As part of a vibrant interdisciplinary arts community at MIT, the program in Theater Arts annually presents publicly attended performances, workshops, readings, lectures, exhibitions and creative residencies.
