Position Description:
We seek candidates interested in developing cutting-edge machine learning tools for particle physics analyses using the Belle II data.
Our postdoctoral fellows are for three years with the possibility of a 2-year renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs, and are provided with salaries comparable to those at other prestigious institutions. We may offer a higher position, at the rank of assistant professor, for five years with the possibility of a 2-year renewal to outstanding candidates.
The successful candidate is expected to make outstanding contributions to the following areas related to the Belle II experiment:
• new methods to study new physics in missing energy modes of B/Bs decays
• novel machine-learning techniques applications to data analysis
• operation and characterization of the Belle II Central Drift Chamber (CDC)
The research activities mentioned above will be undertaken as a member of the KEK-Belle II group. They will align with its ongoing activities covering physics analyses, detector developments, and operation.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field by the time the appointment begins. Relevant knowledge/skills include data analysis in high-energy physics (HEP,) machine-learning algorithm applications and the operation and characterization of detectors in HEP. The position will be based at KEK, working with QUP PI Nanae Taniguchi (Belle II/KEK). The successful candidate is also expected to collaborate with other scientists at Belle II and QUP to contribute to interdisciplinary research at QUP.
As a WPI research center, QUP is designed to establish an international environment where more than 30% of researchers are non-Japanese. English is the official language of QUP.
