Position Description:

The Heavy-Ion Group at the MIT Laboratory of Nuclear Science invites applications for a postdoctoral research position. Our group has leading roles in characterizing high-temperature QCD matter in nucleus-nucleus collisions with heavy-flavor, jets, and electromagnetic probes, and cold nuclear matter in proton-nucleus and ultra-peripheral (UPC) heavy-ion collisions. The successful candidate will play a major role in data taking and the analysis of data from the CMS experiment or the sPHENIX experiment at RHIC. Therefore, candidates with a strong background in jet and heavy-flavor analyses or UPC/diffractive physics are strongly encouraged to apply. Review of applications will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled. To ensure full consideration, candidates should apply by May 1st, 2024. Interested candidates should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, publication list, and a brief statement of research interests and experience and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted online.

The appointment will initially be for one year and may be further renewed upon satisfactory performance and available funding. All material should be sent electronically via Academic Jobs Online (AJO).

Any questions should also be directed to Prof. Gunther Roland.

Job Requirements: Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in Physics.
