Position Description

The Wheelock College of Education & Human Development at Boston University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Special Education within the Department of Teaching and Learning. We seek a teacher educator with substantial professional experience teaching students with disabilities and a demonstrated ability to contribute to the program's commitment to preparing inclusive teaching professionals. To that end, we are seeking a colleague who approaches teacher education with an anti-ableist and critical orientation and is student-centered.

At BU Wheelock, Lecturers are typically assigned a workload of three courses per semester. Service to the program, college, and university, such as serving on committees, is expected as a portion of the workload for this position. The faculty member in this position will teach graduate courses in the special education program area; collaborate with general education preparation programs to enhance the focus on inclusive education; contribute to the continuous improvement of the program; and advise graduate-level students. Required Qualifications: ● Doctorate in Special Education or related field (e.g., elementary/secondary education, early childhood, teaching and learning). Advanced ABD will be considered. ● Minimum three years of relevant teaching experience in PK-12 with students with disabilities. ● Demonstrated excellence in course development/revision and teaching in a teacher preparation program. ● Expertise in anti-oppressive and inclusive pedagogies (e.g., culturally relevant/sustaining practices and pedagogies, Universal Design for Learning). ● Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education. Preferred Qualifications: ● Experience applying critical theories (e.g., DisCrit) to teacher preparation. ● Experience building university-school partnerships. ● Experience advising graduate students in teacher education programs. ● Familiarity with MA licensure requirements and procedures.

The Lecturer position begins August 1, 2024, on a three-year contract, with potential for renewal. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
