Position Information. Two-year post-doctoral position (with a possibility to extend to three years) to apply causal inference methods and agent-based modeling to studying health care access for tuberculosis services. This position will allow for the implementation of structural equation modeling and agent-based modeling approaches for the analysis of factors driving access to health care among a cohort of tuberculosis patients in Peru. We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience with structural equation modeling and/or agent-based modeling. However, we will consider qualified applicants with experience in other related research areas.

The successful applicant is expected to lead analyses and produce lead author publications based on the results, under the mentorship of experienced faculty. Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a quantitative field such as epidemiology, biostatistics, or relevant behavioral or social sciences; candidates in other fields who have demonstrated expertise in structural equation modeling or agent-based modeling will also be considered. Strong programming skills are required in R, SAS, or python. Additional background with Mplus software is preferred but not required. We encourage candidates with an interest in global health or social determinants of health to apply. The position will include mentoring from Dr. Helen Jenkins and Dr. Eleanor Murray (Boston University School of Public Health) and Dr. Courtney Yuen (Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School).

Institution Information. The Department of Biostatistics believes that the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, post-docs, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our research and academic programs. We are eager to have join our ranks a colleague who supports our institutional commitment to ensuring BU is inclusive, equitable, diverse, and a place where all constituents can thrive. The School of Public Health actively seeks to enrich its student, post-doc, and faculty ranks, recognizing that diversity of experience deepens the intellectual endeavor. We seek to embed—within our curricular and co-curricular activities—the principle that pluralism within a learning community is a source of insight and effectiveness.

Boston University is an AAU institution with a rich tradition dedicated to inclusion and social justice. We are proud that we were the first American university to award a Ph.D. to a woman and we continue that tradition of educating a diverse and talented student body. The School of Public Health takes the University’s commitment even further with its own detailed plan for fostering a diverse and inclusive community.

Application. Interested applicants should send the following materials to the Academic Jobs Online portal: (1) curriculum vitae, (2) a cover letter detailing research experience, career goals, and how you will contribute to our goals to engender a more inclusive and diverse school, and (3) contact information for three references. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and candidates are encouraged to apply by early September. We will continue to accept applicants until the position is filled.
